On 22nd April 2008, eMenang published a contest called “AXA AFFIN TURNING POINT CONTEST” which offer a Grand Prize of RM50,000. From that moment onwards until the finale event which took place on 5th July 2008, there have been a lot of incidents which we think had clearly jeopardize the credibility of this contest.
As an introduction, AXA AFFIN TURNING POINT CONTEST is an online interactive game-based competition. It’s free and opens to citizens and permanent residents of Malaysia aged 21yrs old and above. Anyone can register at the website and start playing. All participants can play as many times as they want. Each game lasts around 20 minutes but if your wealth goes to zero then its game over. The top 8 scorers at the end of the game will win the prizes.
There are few version of complaints that we received regarding this contest from our forum members who took part in this competition. Below are some that we would like to share with you.

“Ya, last night very funny. Those name overtake that top 8 list will suddenly disappear and gone and the top 8 list also sometimes will disappear for a while but then amazing appear again.
I suspect that they hacked those overtake them and they also been hacked by other but they manage to recover back.
My account in this game had been altered. I can’t even log in or retrieve the password using my email. They had stole my password and email and changed it. They had stolen all the players data!!!
I had called that AXA “Leng Sooi”. She don’t even want to attention us. According to her that their system is very secured, no one else can hack into the system!!! But the fact is, my info has been altered!!! And she not dare to take a step to verify what I said!!!”

“Hmm, my participation in AXA is pretty minimal. I had my fun during the first few days when most of the the hoo-haas occured, gave up on it during the 2 months in between. Then I checked back on the game again a week before closing date. I saw some new names and some old names on the ranking.
I happened to witness the following event:
On June 26th, around 6.30pm, the rankings page was blanked out (see below image). I assumed axa finally did a board reset and removed everyone.
I overjoyed, and decided to jump onto the game again with a close mate (anonymous_zzz, eheheh).
Surprisingly we managed to entered the rankings with crappy scores. An hour or two passed, some other random players who happened to be playing at that time joined us in the chart. For a short moment in time, the chart was filled with happy, crappy, noobie players.
I went out for dinner and such, and returned to check around midnight. Some of the familiar names returned, like choon xx, loo xx, wong xx, etc. I
went to sleep, and by the next morning, the chart was filled up with almost all the names of the
current final 8 players again.
This happened within the timespan of 12 hours, so most of you probably have missed this. I believe axa was genuinely trying to push the reset button and give everyone a fair strike at it, but it dint make any difference since they dint want to fix their original problem/bug/security issues. In my opinion, I think it was quite a lazy and pathetic attempt they took at making things right.”

“I started playing on the 1st week when the contest go online. During that time, the max score on the ranks was around 5 million points. Kept on playing but almost all of my attempt failed to get me into the ranks.
Later, the 1 million mark broken. The 24 million points came out topping the 1st rank. Well, this is the turning point of the game actually. The score boost up all other contestant to brain-storming a way to achieve a greater score than that. Walla… few more people managed to score more than that. 30 millions to 50 millions plus.
During this time, the only 8 Digits Slots available for Wealth, Quality of Life and Game Points.
The game continues and many people manage to get to XX millions and suddenly BOOM! A full 9 in all 8 slots. I kept on playing and in the same time trying to read the game. Many said theres loopholes and things like that, but for a beginner like me, I guess I’m a bit slow in finding the holes. Until 1 day, I paused the game and see the dice which is active on the page. I tried clicking on the dice and walla… the game can continue.. fuiyyohhh syok syok!!! I was happy. I can score big now but everytime I reached the 2nd stage the game always hang. so i never completed the game by using this loophole.
Then they reviewed the game and do some clean up and upgraded the slots to 14 digits.
No worries.. I kept trying again. Now, I found the best trick that i think most of the top ranks use them. The PAUSE MODE. after throwing the dice, press pause and then wait till the card opens. You save a lot of time. and unPAUSE ONLY when the card has open. For 1st stage i can reach hundreds of thousands easily and thats how i can get full points. However, I tried many times and I can say out of 100 less than 10 I can complete the game. The other, always hang and need to restart. But i dont give up, I kept trying until i achieved the score. With this trick you dont need to worry about flash setting low or high.
The error “A Script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script.”
But wait… my score not in the ranks. Later found out that my score need verification. It took about hmm..I would say about 5 working days. I already sent few emails and made 2-3 phone calls to AXA but not nice la them. not friendly and talk nonsense.
For added information, the brand awareness campaign is designed by Grey Worldwide and bears a slight resemblance to Great Eastern’s ‘Live 100 Percent’ campaign, also by Grey. Some of the participants from eMenang has contacted the customer line and even sent an email. Unfortunately some did not received any reply at all and for some who did received it, it was not really helpful either. Below is sample of email which one of the complainants received.

AXA AFFIN Life Insurance Berhad
We aware that the judges decision is final but what we are trying to say is this contest might had been hacked easily since the beginning till the end. It is neither about questioning the 7 finalist who were born at the same year nor about doubting the Top 3 winners who then again were born on the same year of 1986. For us, it is the integrity of the contest that were not taken into account seriously despite various attempts being made by participants to notify the organizer. The hi-scores were reset numerous times even until the last minute and some of the compers here already gave up on it long before the dateline since they think that it will be impossible for them to be among the finalist. For a log of hi-scores that we keep track throughout this competition, please refer here.
Honestly we are glad that AXA is willing to come up with such competition in the first place. However, we strongly feel this contest has been organized and managed poorly. We hope AXA would be more serious and responsible when organizing such contest in the future since we believe that a contest without proper attention to online bugs will only promote a hacker rather than a true winner.”

In the first place, genuine players should hv signed up for axe-ha insurance that gives u protection against hackers in this game. What? No agents called u after u signed up for this game disclosing ur particulars? Ahhh, then it has been a waasted effort for axe-ha rite? Afterall, what better way to collect info from rakyat if not thru a so-called CONtest that offers rm50k so that even a tan sri n dato will jump in?
go dig out more info on Grey. See what other online games they hv developed and cross-ref their winners with axe-ha. Was Carlsberg predict the scores done by Grey?
As with any other contests that offers good prizes, there are bound to be cheaters and what better way to cheat if u r not on the INSIDE.
Why do you specifically focus on writing about this competition? Almost every online game contest out there is being hacked/tampered. Why only write about this and not others? It is without doubt that some of the emenang members themselves are hacking some of these games. Dont deny that. Why not begin your investigation from within your own community?
This merely shows people in emenang tried to cheat but end up fruitless aint it? It seems like axa are doing thier job in preventing ppl who cheated to get ranked.
Sorry to sound offensive but your conclusion is rather arbitrary. well, the fact that most of them are from year 86 do make it look fishy.. nonetheless, now i know how you ppl got the score of 9999999999, bravo.
Well finally some sort of justice for the genuine compers, online game such as AXA should be ban as it’s only waste of time, energy and hope!!!!! Thanks to those who bring the true meaning of fair play and new hope for all… Viva emenang.com!!!
Cheating? well from my point of view its not their fault its AXA fault for not building the game properly.
1) Why do you specifically focus on writing about this competition? Almost every online game contest out there is being hacked/tampered. Why only write about this and not others?
- Because unlike you, we do monitor this contest since beginning. Unlike you who just sit down and enjoy all the contest that we had published here, we actually are sacrificing our time to analyze, discuss and publish an article about it. Has you ever think about that? We can start monitor other games as well but would you mind paying for our salary since some of us do have a kids and family to feed?
2) It is without doubt that some of the emenang members themselves are hacking some of these games. Dont deny that. Why not begin your investigation from within your own community?
- Yes, and don’t worry. Even with all this hacking do you still see any of our forum members emerge as winner? Do you agree that this mean the best hacker win? And most important is, does this mean we need to be the best hacker from now on to win online gaming competition?

well, the same question arises. Your allegation is arbitrary, your proofs are rather vague.
He who admitted cheating, in your post, was not ranked. That shows axa did thier part of the job didnt it?
In order words, that mean legit player win? y must it be best hacker?
The main idea is not hack lor. If u read clearly its about not taking part in our complaint seriously. With so many bugs around they tend to ignore it and doesn’t even reply some of complainants emails. That the real issue. Whether they did the job, don’t ask me lor, ask all other people who play the game lor. Let them tell you how they all feel. Then you will feel much better since you kinda doubt all my saying.
Many bugs around? i thought they fixed the ‘pause mode’, or whatever it may be called.
And the MAIN IDES is not ‘hack’? i thought your title said ‘promoting hacker’
I tried to avoid using the word ‘bias’ but i’m at my wits end to find another word to substitute…
How did ppl in emenang feel about the contest?
“i cant win by cheating so all the winner must have cheated/hacked, wahaha lame contest” isnt it?
Anyway, i must said this contest was fun and even tho i didnt win any of the hard cold cash.
Better luck next time. And hope the real truth is that this contest never award any of the cheaters. Well, who knows, after all.
Thanks emenang tho, for the good work of gathering contests info around the country. Cheers.
Dear kwtan,
Yes, there is a lot of bugs. Do you aware that the hi-scores were rest numerous times? Did you know that initially there is top 10 and not top 8? Did you know that few terms has been added including the finale event? Did you know that one of member account has been hacked and his data has been altered? If bugs has been fixed then why need to reset the hi score many times? If bug has been fix then why need to add 4 more lucky participant for the finale? If bugs has been fix why there is a lot of hiccups?
And why did I say it promote hacker? Because if there is a bug in the game and it was not fixed properly, then any hacker who can manipulate the bugs will surely win lor. Its as simple as that. Why is so hard for you to see that?
Again we are not saying the winner is a hacker or etc. We are saying that the whole contest should be more stable and reliable in the first place before they release it to the public.
I wonder how come a rich and resourceful conglomerate like AXA failed to come up with a viable, transparent bug-free game for all… it’s easier and fair that way!!!
I also face the problem that I can’t log on. Since I use same password all the way, I am sure that I had enter the correct password. But I just can’t log on.
It is funny that AXA willing to give such high contest prize but not willing to spend more on their system. Maybe that high prize to is attract people and get their info only but don’t care privacy of your information.
I am so disappointed on AXA.
After they had gather your info then no use for you anymore, isn’t that typical of big conglomerate!!!!
let me explain for those who still blur about this.
First of all, the game starts with only 8 digits slot (points/cash/QoL). Then people scored max.
How can they score max? You should know how by now.
If AXA doesnt approved the way they played then why they ADDED THE DIGIT SLOTS TO 14 DIGITS SLOTS??
Hmm…????
People kept playing and using same technique get max again.
Later they rectify the pause thingy but still most of the people who scored big still in the ranks.
How to catch up? sure cannot one. right?
so later they axed some of the names? FOR WHAT REASONS?
IF THEY AXED THEM DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY UTILIZE THE FUNCTIONS THEN WHY DID THEY ADD THOSE DIGITS SLOTS IN THE FIRST PLACE??
Have a think. Does this call cheating.
1 guy uses an average PC and another guy uses a gaming PC. The gaming PC sure fast one. so he has the advantage than the other guy. Right?
He utilizes efficiently rather than the other guy. So? Do u call this cheating? the examples goes on and on. utilizing and using them to the optimum. even in racing, u have same machines but still some perform better than the other because of their setting and so forth.
so now, everyone is given the same game. and by optimizing and utilizing u can be better/have an edge than others.
The function is there to press. If there is a Pause button and pressing them is consider tampering then how do u explain this?
I only like some clarification from AXA on why the names are axed. based on what reasons.
They didnt replied the mails sent to them regarding why the names been removed.
If let say, its due by using the Pause button, they should tell us straight. They can tell us that the initial game was having lots of problems. They can also tell us please play again as we have stabilize the game.
we can play again but it seems some people who got axed, played again, got names in the ranks, and suddenly *blink* gone. Why? is it hackers? or AXA Blacklisted them?
you guys tell me lah.
FYI, without using the Pause thingy u cant score much.
If i remember correctly, people only manage to get around 50 million points.
so care to share your opinions on what i mentioned above?
Couldnt agree more with Gosh. That is not a hacking but a crystal clear system bug that is left wide open for anyone to explore. It is their own mistake for not fixing this problems in the first place but in the end those who manage to detect this loophole was the one who get punished.
dear kwtan,
they do got ranked but only for a short while. hope this enlighten your perspective!
i m not a hacker, didnt know how to hack, so what the heck, rite?
the only reason why we are pissed off is becos for a big company that supposed to hire some very smart ppl failed to put up a game that is bug-free. Have they heard of testing b4 throwing it out in the market?
Some Emenang members were trying to hack but that doesnt mean we condone with their actions and those of us who are championing for a fair game arent hackers.
Our grouse is with AXA mainly for even a 4 year yr old will know how to detect a false score. You mean to tell me that those hi scores were achieved using a GAming PC? So simple?
DUHHHH!
im not saying that they use a gaming pc. its just an example. because most people mentality thinks using the pause thingy is cheating.
like i said. why did they increase the digits in the first place??
